Evan Koby Foster (born May 11th, 1987) is an American painter, illustrator and musician. His painted works explore a marriage of Cubism and Classical art. His Chicago underground comic series ‘The Hackneyed Homegrown Hipsters’ satirizes contemporary American culture. Foster’s work is eclectic, but a curious philosophical theme about the human condition runs through everything he creates.
Themes of humanism and the modern distortion of the human condition pervade the artist’s work. Foster is a Neo-Luddite and has degrees in Psychology and Philosophy.
“I fear for my brothers and sisters. Technology’s seed has grown within us, it’s now taking over the host. We profoundly need a skin-to-skin reconnection with ourselves and each other without the technological prophylactic. Our souls are silently slipping away. I am deeply in love with this planet and it’s people, my love is only surpassed by my fear for them.”
His cubist works graft pieces of physically attractive human beings together into a single image, creating portraits that are both classically beautiful and strangely horrific. Foster explains that the cubist process allows him to explore the brain’s mental diagnostics of human beauty. By painting multiple angles from human faces together into a single realistic image, he creates paintings that begin feeling familiar & become more unsettling based on the individuals length of time looking at the picture.
“My work reflects the duality of the human condition, our modern metamorphic state and the losing of ourselves within ourselves. We are entities of luminous beauty and monstrous darkness. Our Ouroborosian nature cannot be escaped.”
Evan uses the comic medium as an autobiographical and
warped chronicle of modern American life. His goal is to bring humanism and compassion back to the world through satire and introspection. He is currently writing his 8th release of the ongoing 400 plus page comic book series.
‘We must each individually moult our shell’s of cold tech and egoism we have all unconcensually adopted. Tech has made us so gratuitously independent that the only one that left to free ourselves is ourselves. Take a good break from your smartphone & screens and your soul will begin to cry again.’
